Personal Support Worker

Note: This is a part time CONTRACT position and not permanent hire.

Qualifications

  • Personal Support Worker  certificate or equivalent from recognized Ontario institution
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by UHH is to be worn
  • Proof of updated required Immunizations MMR, Varicella/Zosters, Hepatitis B, Tetanus
  • Negative Tuberculosis Check (TB – Mantoux Test)
  • Current – Standard First Aid and CPR-
  • Police clearance; including the vulnerable sector screening clearance (up-to-date) 
  • Excellent communications and listening skills
  • Compassionate, Caring, Empathetic and Patient
  • mentally fit to handle the demands of caregiving
  • Physically fit to stand, bend, squat, kneel and reach freely; able to freely lift upto 25 kg weight; able to assist clients with standing, walking, sitting and rolling in bed
  • Ability to travel independently to client’s location

Responsibilities/duties on a shift (but no limited to)

  • In current times, daily pre-screening for possible virus symptoms may be required  
  • Co-operate & coordinate with all members of the healthcare team
  •   Promotes safety and works in a safe manner
  •   Assists with range of movement exercises and other rehab measures
  • Efficiently support clients with below activities of daily life (ADL)  
    • Changes bed linen, towels and performs laundry related tasks
    •  All aspects of personal hygiene with dignity – skin care, hair care, mouth care, bathing, bowel and bladder care
    • ambulation and mobilization of patients
    • taking medication/reminding to take on-time
    • meal preparation, feeding, dietary planning, food handling
  •   Maintains records and documents procedures
  •   Provides emotional support to patients and families
  •   Assists with grocery shopping
  •   Practices precautions and maintains a clean working environment
  •  Provide personal care service according to directions on the care plan or assignment sheet.
  • Observe and document client conditions; report unusual events or changes in the client’s condition to the immediate Supervisor or to the Office
  • Adhere to Universal Health Hub Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses the same only with appropriate Universal Health care manager.
  • To summarize, our personal support worker will do everything that needs to be done for the client while on duty, within the scope of the service agreement.
